ApurvTimes Accuracy and Correction Policy
-
Commitment to Accuracy
ApurvTimes is dedicated to publishing accurate information across all its content. We take multiple steps to ensure accuracy, including investigating claims with skepticism, questioning assumptions, and challenging conventional wisdom. -
Achieving Due Accuracy
We are committed to maintaining due accuracy in all our output. This is fundamental to our reputation and the trust of our audience. ‘Due’ means the accuracy must be appropriate and adequate to the content, considering the subject and nature of the information. Any constraints that may influence expectations should be explicitly stated. -
Evidence-Based Content
Our output, when relevant to its content and nature, must be well-sourced, based on available evidence, and corroborated. We strive for honesty and transparency regarding what we do not know, avoiding unfounded speculation. -
Plagiarism and Fact Distortion
Our journalists never intentionally plagiarize, distort facts, or misrepresent context, including visual information. -
Independent Verification
We seek independent verification of claims, allegations, and material facts, especially from public officials or individuals with an agenda beyond merely reporting the truth. If content cannot be corroborated, it is typically attributed to its source. -
Accountability and Transparency
ApurvTimes stands by the accuracy of its published information. If proven otherwise, we update the content as quickly as possible. We do not intentionally mislead our audience, distort facts, or present fabricated material. Serious factual errors are acknowledged and corrected swiftly, clearly, and appropriately. -
Public Correction Submissions
We offer the public a fair opportunity to report inaccuracies through the “Suggest A Correction” section at the end of every published story. -
Journalists’ Responsibilities and Editorial Review
Our journalists are primarily responsible for reporting, writing, and fact-checking stories, which are reviewed by one or more editors. ApurvTimes employs a multi-level fact-checking system, with the level of editorial review depending on factors such as complexity, sensitivity, and time constraints.
Correction Procedures
Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
While ApurvTimes strives for excellence and accuracy, we acknowledge that errors may occasionally occur. When this happens, we take responsibility for correcting them and maintain transparency to ensure that inaccurate information does not continue to circulate.
Steps for Achieving Accuracy and Transparency
For Readers:
If a reader identifies an error, they should immediately contact the editor-in-chief, Vivek Verma, via email, phone, mail, or in person.
- Email: support@apurvtimes.com
- Subject: Correction Needed
To officially submit a correction, readers must contact the editor-in-chief directly. Corrections submitted to other staff members may not be addressed in a timely manner, or at all.
Submissions via email or mail should include the correction details, the issue date or number, where the error was seen (print, online, etc.), and the reader’s contact information (phone or email). If possible, readers should also provide the correct information and its source (e.g., meeting minutes for a vote tally).
The reader can expect a response from the editor-in-chief, who may request further clarification. Submitting a correction guarantees that the error will be investigated, but it does not guarantee that a correction will be issued.
For ApurvTimes:
Once the editor-in-chief is made aware of an error, they will investigate using information provided by the reader, meeting minutes, reporter recordings, and other available sources.
If an error is confirmed, a correction will be issued across all forms where the incorrect information was disseminated:
- Print: Corrections will appear on page 2A in the next issue, indicating the issue, article, incorrect information, and the correction.
- Online: The article will be updated, and an editor’s note will be added at the end, specifying the correction and when it was made.
- Social Media: If the article was shared on platforms like Facebook or Twitter, a post linking to the corrected article will be made, noting the correction.
After the correction is made, the editor-in-chief will inform the reader who submitted the correction, outlining the steps taken to resolve the issue.
